Garden Ballet Workshop
Hi Garden community! Ashley here. I am a Queer Filipina ballet dancer. I used to train pre-professionally decades ago, but, after a series of chronic dance-related injuries, I am now dancing recreationally. I know that many of us love dancing and deeply miss being able to dance in studio with people. I haven’t taken an in-person ballet class since 2020. As a woman of color and a chronically injured dancer, I also know how toxic mainstream ballet and dance culture can be. I would love to provide a free covid-safe virtual space for us to enjoy moving our bodies together simply for the joy of collective movement, and to learn about and do some ballet that is anti-racist, accessible, body positive, queer, and covid conscious. You wouldn’t need any special clothing or equipment, just socks and clothes you feel comfortable moving in, as well as something you could hold on to at around chest level for barre (such as the back of a chair or a countertop). The class will be designed so that you can also do it seated. I created this survey to help plan what this workshop might look like, and value any and all insights, suggestions, and feedback you might have. Pasasalamat (gratitude and thanks)!
