If you are seeking a place to host a virtual event (in or outside of Garden), or need virtual work space for your grassroots/community org, always feel free to email us!

We have been putting our heads together to bring you the most magical of Halloweens, and we are so excited to invite you to our Spooky Affair October 26th & 27th which will include an open mic, horror and non-horror films, karaoke, a costume contest and a time to meet new friends. 💌On Saturday October 12th, Skyriver leads, Kilti Nou Rasin Nou (Our Culture Our Roots) from 12-1:30pm PT. "Living through a genocide sucks." Kilti Nou Rasin Nou is a time to process and share about the complex and sometimes confusing experience of being Haitian or of Haitian descent in the world today. Let us support each other through the grief, the joy, and the fight. Let us build strength as we connect and reconnect to our culture, our roots. (Please note this session is only open to Haitian folks, and those of Haitian descent.) RSVP!

📺 Starting October 19th, join us every 3rd Saturday of the month for Garden Ghibli, where we view a Ghibli movie and attempt to make our way to watch all the magical Ghibli movies! RSVP here!

🥣 Grab your favorite cereal for dinner and watch anime & cartoons with us at Monday Night Cereal! Join us every other Monday. October 7th, we're watching people's grandpas and little brothers get stolen for the sake of a children's card game. Your move! Read more about the event here.

💃 Looking for a movement break in the middle of the day? Come co-tWERK with us on the beach Tuesdays at 2:30pm PT we will be stretching and picking songs to dance to. Folks are welcome to move within their comfort zone, or just hangout to listen or watch.

🎥 Name That Movie (Night!) is Wednesday at 5:30pm PT! This week's movie is a live action horror/thriller/fantasy remake of an anime about a high school student that discovers the notebook of a demon. Think you know what it is? Come thru and find out! RSVP via the visit page.

🪷 Stretch it out as Caroline leads us in another weekly afternoon Yoga sesh this Friday at 2:15pm PT by streaming a yoga video from YouTube and following along. Videos will be between 25-45 minutes long between easy to moderate pace. Drop ins are always welcome! RSVP via the calendar on the visit page.

🫂 The October sessions of Chronic Illness and Long Covid Support Group will be Thursdays October 10th & 24th from 5:30pm-7:30pm PT with Chanelle! Navigating everything that comes with chronic illness can be difficult - from managing symptoms to experiencing grief over missing your pre-illness life. This is a peer support space where we can share our feelings about living with any chronic/long-term illness, including long Covid, during an ongoing pandemic. 🦾 Saturdays at 6pm PT, Caroline hosts a Self Defense Discussion Series which includes reading, discussion and (potential) movement on self-defense principles. In these politically challenging times, it is especially important for our collective liberation and self-care to learn self-defense. RSVP and reach out to Caroline via the visit page!

😷 Hang out, chill and play games with Black folks who take COVID precautions at the Bonfire in Garden! Every 3rd Saturday of the month from 5-8pm PT. The next Bonfire is Saturday, October 19th! RSVP here.

💻 Do you work from home and sometimes feel a little too isolated from others? Come Co-Work with us in Garden! We are a 24/7 drop in space for folks to join to co-work silently, listen to music, play a game or chat amongst each other in the chat box.

Opportunities

💰The AJ Muste Foundation for Peace + Justice's Social Justice Fund makes grants for grassroots activist projects in the US, giving priority to those with small budgets and little access to more mainstream funding sources. They are specifically focusing funding efforts on those whose work seeks to: 1. end the violence of borders and the criminalization of immigrants, shut down CBP and ICE 2. abolish prisons and dismantle and redefine systems of policing and criminal justice 3. confront institutionalized violence against racial, ethnic, gender-based, and LGBTQ communities 4. put an end to economic exploitation, class stratification, systemic poverty and 5. stop the war machine, end state sponsored terrorism, expose the dangers of nuclear power. Applications are due Oct 21st!
