As you may or may not know, Garden is a 24/7 virtual drop in space in the Gathertown platform. Garden is open to all BIPOC identifying folks who are invested in community care and take pandemic precautions (such as keeping yourself and others safe from COVID, RSV, Flu, Measles, and other respiratory viruses). If you want to invite a friend to join, send them this link.

Meeting in a virtual space is one safe way to meet new folks, here are three ways you can meet new folks in Garden:

  • Write in your status if you're open to conversations with others:

You can always write "open to co-work" "open to chat and meet new people" on your status. Here's how you update your status:

If you're on your computer, click the two people icon
You should see everyone who is active, and their status
Click on your name, and you will have the option of updating your status with letters & emojis

You can also read the status of others and see if they are open to co-working, chatting it up or playing a game.

  • Wave or send a message before hopping on the mic.
    • Are folks quiet co-working? Maybe sound sensitive? Wave or send a message rather than hopping on the mic when you are unsure if folks are already engaging in verbal conversation.
    • Waving first is also a good way to check in to see if someone is available to connect whether via text, mic, or video chat before sending a message to a new person.
  • Show up to scheduled events:
    • Are you signed up for our weekly newsletter? If you're not on our newsletter, click here to join Garden and get yourself added to our weekly email blast.
    • Our weekly newsletters include any upcoming new events, ongoing weekly events (such as yoga, book club, movie nights, etc).
    • Come to our scheduled events to meet new people on garden!

That's all for now, until next our avatars meet!
